I don't listen to much rap anymore but the new Jay-Z album is amazing.

Anyway, what I wanted to talk about was the fact that I love to watch scary movies. I feel like I haven't seen any legit scary movies in a long time. However, today I came across two trailers for two seriously scary movies. The first movie is based on a true story. Here's the description from HollywoodStreams on YT,
<blockquote>
1n 1972, a scale of measurement was established for alien encounters. When a UFO is sighted, it is called an encounter of the first kind. When evidence is collected, it is known as an encounter of the second kind. When contact is made with extraterrestrials, it is the third kind. The next level, abduction, is the fourth kind. This encounter has been the most difficult to document-until now. Set in modern-day Nome, Alaska, where--mysteriously since the 1960s--a disproportionate number of the population has been reported missing every year. Despite multiple FBI investigations of the region, the truth has never been discovered. Here in this remote region, psychologist Dr. Abigail Tyler began videotaping sessions with traumatized patients and unwittingly discovered some of the most disturbing evidence of alien abduction ever documented.
</blockquote>
Sounds scary right? Well if you don't think so check out the trailer.

The next movie isn't based on a true story but the cinematography is made to look like it is. I really don't find this one scary, but more creepy. Here's the description from HollywoodStreams on YT,
<blockquote>
Katie and Micah were enjoying a happy and carefree existence. Their future looked promising until bizarre events begin to occur at night. In order to get to the bottom of things, Katie and Micah purchase a video camera to find out what happens at night while they slept.
</blockquote>
Like I said, I don't it's as scary as the first one but it gives me more of a creepy someone/something is watching you vibe and that's enough to send shivers down my spine. Check out the trailer below.

On to the next one…

I'm only gonna talk a little about the whole Kanye thing. At first, I thought he was a major asshole for doing this. Then I saw his apology on his blog. Then I didn't give a shit and still thought he was an asshole. But I saw the interview of him on Jay Leno. So then I gave it some thought about all the other dumb shit he's done and not once has he ever apologized. With that said, he is still an arrogant douche bag, but this is the first time he's apologized for something, plus if you saw the VMA pre-show you would have seen him with a half full bottle of Hennessy.
Now it's time for a change of pace. Fun stuff. I cannot wait till tomorrow. Why? Because Jay-Z's new album The Blueprint 3 is finally up for sale. In all honesty, I downloaded the leaked album but I still want a physical copy and I want to support his music. So I will be going to Best Buy to purchase the CD.
This year has to be the most exciting year for music. Seriously. So many of my favorite artist will be releasing an album sometime in the coming months. I'm just so stoked and I can't wait!
I've never been the type of girl who was obsessed with and undoubtedly loves fashion. But the fashion world has consumed me and now I'm obsessed with it. So don't be surprised if you see some posts about fashion. If you're into fashion too then I suggest you see 'The Day Before' series on the Sundance Channel. From the Sundance Channel, "In SIGNE CHANEL (2005) and MARC JACOBS & LOUIS VUITTON (2007), documentarian Loic Prigent unveiled rare and refreshing glimpses behind the doors of some of the world's leading fashion houses. In this four-part documentary series, Prigent chronicles the final 36 hours prior to crucial seasonal runway shows featuring creations by some of the fashion world's leading designers." The series follows 4 designers and the hours before the show. The designers are Sonia Rykiel, Jean Paul Gaultier, Proenza Schouler, and Fendi by Karl Lagerfeld. This is an amazing show. I've been watching alot of documentaries about fashion and it's led me to a much greater appreciation for it. It's an art form like no other. Sure there are some things that aren't appealing about fashion but that happens with any line of work. I used to be someone that opposed fashion and it's elitist appeal, however it take a lot of work and some of these designers take their job seriously. They view it as art instead of money or numbers. But ... haters gon' hate.
This is a pretty long post so I'm just gonna stop there. That's not all I have to say but I'll continue on tomorrow.

A Real Clever Trick Fur A Bear

------
It seems like something is always dying these days. No, I'm not talking about this year's 'Summer of Death' but rather old media. I keep reading things about newspapers and magazines are dying because of new media. Which is fine and dandy because these companies, especially newspaper companies, have been complaining since radios were invented. However, just today I saw an article on Delicious.com by Time Magazine talking about how handwriting is dead. I have to disagree. I know plenty of people young and old that write legibly and in cursive. Maybe they're right but I'm getting tired of seeing articles about things dying. Whether it be about newspapers or ways of writing, let's just stop the silliness and talk about real news.

This on is a little late as this site has been up for quite a while. There's a site called Smitten Kitchen that posts amazing recipes and it doesn't hurt that there's great photography to accompany the posts. If you're like me and love to cook or just want to see great photography of spectacular food then definitely go visit this site.

All I Need Is A Witness

From my Deviant Art page:
I'm not sure what this is. I was listening to The Sound Of Animals Fighting and I guess the music somehow triggered a catharsis of sorts. Unfortunately, it's not big enough to be a wallpaper but I'm sure someone can make use of this.

Don’t question. Just click the link and read. It’s sad yet inspiring and New York Times columnist Dan Berry’s almost poetic writing style makes it that much better.

Oh Electric Shocks No
Jul. 29th, 2009 | 05:25 am
DeviantArt (dA), it's a place where people can submit their art works and receive feedback on their art. It's a great place for artists to get their work noticed. I myself am an artist who has an account there. Whether you have an account there or not, the home page has two different browsing features, 'Popular' and 'Newest'. The default option is Popular. Now before I go on, I want to explain something else.
I saw a new journal posted by Ryan Ford, known as $liquisoft on dA. I usually read what he has to say because he always has something interesting to say. And again today he did. His post today was about the front page of dA and its browsing features. He says that, "Popular, by definition, displays the most popular artwork (an algorithm dictated by $mccann's fairexposure wizardry) and tends to generally be accepted as "good" artwork, so much so that we use it as the default category for logged-out/new visitors. Then there's the Newest filter, which, also by definition, displays the very newest work that's been uploaded to deviantART, typically within the last minute (and sometimes quicker)." He then goes on to say, "A lot of people prefer to browse through deviantART using just the Popular filter, and they do this because it tends to produce the best-looking artwork most often." Which is very true, for me at least. He also continues to say that he uses the Newest feature instead because "like[s] the idea of collecting fresh artwork." Additionally, he says that he sees at least one good piece of artwork each time he see the front page.
So I started to think about switching my browsing option to Newest because I thought that I might see more interesting pieces. Which is essentially what I like. New, interesting and is overall aesthetically pleasing. I also like that it might give me a change in what I normally see in the Popular section. However, as I was thinking this I began to read the comments and as dA user =jetOr pointed out, "Fully agree with you, but I prefer to browse by popular result. Why? Becouse everytime I press newest all I find is some pricks who take pictures of their penises, or dumb chicks who takes photos of their vagina using mobile phone, some "myspace" photos and totaly retarded anime fan art, which is not even an art, just some picture made in Paint or some screenshot with some dumb text."
Now let me elaborate my thoughts about his comment and why I don't fully agree or disagree with his comment. First of all, yes it is true. I always see someone's sexual organs on the Newest section and while you also see that in the Popular section too, there is a big difference. The nude or semi-nude pictures in the Popular section are usually very tasteful and have an artful meaning. While the ones in the Newest section aren't tasteful nor do they have much meaning, rather than that of someone deciding to take a picture of their bits and post it thinking it's art. That's like sticking your finger in your bum-hole and calling it macaroni. Just because you say it doesn't make it so. As for the MySpace style pictures, that goes right along with what I just said. Now the comment about the anime fan art not being real art. I disaccord. While anime is not a type of art that I like, I do believe that everything is art no matter how horrible it is. To the contrary of his comment I have seen some really nice anime art that uses amazing technique and is overall aesthetically pleasing. Froward to what I said, there is a great deal of unappealing anime that looks like it was done in MS Paint and obviously not well thought out. But I guess you have to start somewhere so why not infect dA with unappealing art that will hopefully get better with time.
In conclusion, I decided to test what Ford had originally said about seeing at least one good piece of work each time. So, I refreshed the page three times, all within a few seconds of each other, and I found this to be true. Each time I refreshed the page I saw at least one good artwork. However, I have decided to keep my browsing feature on Popular because there is just too much, for lack of a better word, crappy art in the Newest section. I will only look in there if I feel brave enough to bare the terrible MySpace style 'photography', tasteless nudes, and MS Paint anime.
P.S. Here are the three pieces of artwork that I found during my 'test'.And don't forget to click the pictures to enlarge.

The Sound Of Animals Fighting
Jul. 24th, 2009 | 08:08 am

I have known about Anthony Green for awhile now. I have also known about his side projects. However, it wasn't till yesterday that I finally decided to listen, in complete depth, to The Sound Of Animals Fighting. All I can say is that I regret not listening to them earlier. This is truly one amazing band. If you haven't heard them I suggest you do because you will not be disappointed. I have just started listening to their newest album entitled The Ocean and The Sun and so far it's what I expected, amazing. The one stand out song, for me, is the title track. I just love Anthony's vocal styling in this song. The rest of the album and their other albums are equally great. I can't do enough to proclaim my love for this band.

What Sarah Said
Jul. 21st, 2009 | 07:51 am
I made more art and this time it's typography. Yay! Here's the description from my deviant art page:
melancholy mood + Death Cab For Cutie = this.
The song is about a woman who realizes that someday, either her or her husband will have to see the other die. The concept of the song is simple because everyone dies. However, the execution of the lyrics are moving and powerful.
This is also my first try at typography. I wanted to do something simple yet bold and powerful, just like the song.
Also, when I submitted this piece to Deviant Art, I did it in two parts. However, they are meant to be seen side by side, the blue background with black lettering is the first one.

Random News

music: You Again - Kate Havnevik
• Palm Pre vs. iPhone. There isn't much to say about this topic. You're either on one side or another. But I must say, I'm on Apple cock only because I have been on it since before it was popular and it's all I've ever known. However, all of the arguing that has ensued is just silly. It's like Mac vs. PC. There's no point. Yes, most people have a windows computer but at the end of the day, people have bigger problems than choosing between the two. Once you have chosen no one still cares. Point: It's silly to argue about trivial things.
• Rapper Pall Wall has decided to make a music video using an iPhone. Honestly, If it looks good I don't mind. I do think it's a good idea but the fact that he's a rapper who is using an iPhone to make a music video just irks me because most rappers make more money than they deserve. They have all this money and they decided to be cheap. There are lots of real musicians out there who don't make a lot of money and they are the ones that have to be frugal. It's not a choice for them. Point: Clever idea, but I'd rather the idea come from a good unknown broke musician than a rich moderately known rapper.
• On a non-music related note, I am currently watching Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Why? Because Anna Paquin (star of my favorite show, True Blood) and The Dead Weather are going to be on. I really can't stand the way he laughs at his own jokes. I know I'm not the only one who has said something about this because it really is annoying. So, I'll only watch him if someone interesting enough to endure his show will be on. [Original story via MOG and BeatsandBombs]
Also, I didn't realize that each of these posts kinda trickled into each other. It was completely unplanned but really cool. Today's post was more of a rant but I needed to get some stuff out.

A man's world
Jul. 16th, 2009 | 04:50 pm
Like I said before, I guess this won't be a man's world for long. Maybe then it will be a woman's world or even some other new gender.
